INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi will add a new R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI Quattro to its U.S. model lineup in January, with output on the 4.2-liter V8 bumped to 424 horsepower. The same engine goes into the 2011 R8 coupe.
Driving all four wheels through either a six-speed manual or an R tronic six-speed sequential manual gearbox, the R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI Quattro produces 317 pound-feet of torque. With either transmission, the car has a top speed of 186 mph and rockets from rest to 60 mph in less than 4.8 seconds.
European customers can order the new model a little sooner than their U.S. cousins, with deliveries in Germany beginning in the third quarter. On-the-road prices in the home market, including taxes, start at around $152,000.
